Masada National Park in Israel

Masada National Park

Masada National Park in Israel is one of the most mystical and mesmerizing locations in the region. The energy and grandness of the natural rock formation is stunning in itself; however, the palaces built into the rock make this location a true marvel. You will be able to explore the many buildings, take tours of the area, and even host your Bar Mitzvah at this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The History

Masada, known today as Masada National Park in Israel, was built by the King of Judaea, Herod the Great, during his reign from 37-4 B.C. He used the location as a fortress and vantage point from potential enemy attacks and as a home for his palaces to protect his family. The location also provided stunning views of the Dead Sea and the Judean Desert.

Eventually, the remaining Jewish survivors from previous attacks took to the location for its protection and would choose a far more dramatic ending. As the Romans broke through their defenses, they chose to take their own lives rather than to succumb to enslavement by the Romans. To this day, these restored ruins are some of the most spectacular representations of the early Roman Empire.
